During my internship, I have been asked several times to give my opinion on different subjects. Even though I am not an expert in Risk Management, the team listened to my insight, corrected my mistakes and provided much needed feedback. We engaged in true teamwork to brainstorm on ideas. Although I was not the leader at the time, the team constantly supported me. This gave me a sense of belonging and safety within the group and provided me with the much needed support to rise to the top and be the leader in the current project that I have been assigned. The project consists of making an excel model that measures the financial movements of certain companies. This is not an easy assignment for a regular analyst, much less for an intern studying business.
Throughout my college career, I have been involved in many kinds of projects. In most of them, if not all, I have constantly been selected as the leader, or second in charge. A couple of times I thought to myself, “why am I being chosen to do this job?” Then I realized that I had a great leadership style. I am mostly a situational leader, meaning that I adapt my style to whatever situation I am in. My main style is the coaching leadership style, since this style tries to coach the followers and allows them to grow and benefit from the project’s experiences. Overall, I work very well in teams.
As I grow professionally I will continue to develop my leadership and teamwork skills through various group interactions. My aspirations to first be a regional manager in a large multinational corporation will provide the right environment, in which my skills will flourish. As I continue to grow, each new position will provide me with more insight so I can refine my leadership style and perfect it.
Professor Enoc Velazquez’s, a professor here at Towson, has recognized these abilities and has chosen me to be leader in previous class projects. At the bottom of the page you will find a letter from Mr. Velazquez. So far ever y team that I have been a part of has been successful because we had inner synergy, interchanging ideas and consultations.
